September 21st The Spud will host Jazz Ministry, Vinnie usually does this gig with Mathieson, Landau and Laborial, but not this time......Abe Jnr will be sitting in the drum chair. This will be interesting.

the last time i saw jazz ministry at the potato, abe jr. sat in for the last tune of the 2nd set. let me just say it ruined my night.
my personal suggestion: don't waste your money.

He's not trying to be the kind of drummer Vinnie is so I don't hink it's fair to compare.
I do find it a bit odd however that that band would play with a fill-in drummer like Abe Jr. Clearly it's a "blowing" gig, and that IS why people go to see it. Abe Sr should realize that and hire someone who can provide that kind of thing.
On a seperate note I think Abe Jr is a great drummer and grooves his ass off.

Abe Jr. grooves like crazy! I love his feel. But does he blow? Never heard anything that would lead me to believe that he does/can/should/have any interest in blowing with guys like this....
Maybe daddy wants Jr. to have more blowing opportunities to learn and grow....

I love Abe Jr.'s playing. His time feel is so relaxed and in the pocket that you just gotta tap your foot or move something. A master at creating forward motion without playing alot. He kills on Scritti Pollitti's "Anomie, Bonomie" but not in the overplaying sense. He does'nt play alot of stuff because he says it all with his time feel.

I'm not a real big fan. He does that Boz Scaggs tune "Lowdown" I believe on "Tribute to Jeff" and he simply doesn't sound too good in my opinion. His left hand ghosting implies straight sixteenths, while the groove should be slightly swung.

Like i said, he can groove his arse off... & i can see, like u guys, that that is what i was referring to AW [him being on that specific blowing-type gig/Jazz Min.]... [& i also went back & listened to that Loedown track off Jeff Trib]... Abe sounds great on it... sorry, i didn't mean 4 it to come of like it maybe did [*smacks his hand w a ruler, nun*]... DEF. NO diss to Abe AT ALL [he is a groove-beast]...
Nikk, i think that is the vibe [groove] they were going 4 on this particular tune on that CD; a slightly diff approach... it was not meant to be the same groove as the orig Scaggs tune [just to "shake it up"/change things up a little bit]...
